Best Ginger Salad Dressing Recipe!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of minced onion
1/2 cup peanut oil
1/3 cup rice vinegar
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
2 tablespoons minced celery
2 tablespoons ketchup
4 teaspoons soy sauce (I go with a low sodium option)
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt (I opt for a low sodium salt)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until ginger is pureed. Chill and serve. The dressing gets better as you let it sit for 2+ days!

This tastes VERY similar to the one served at Benihana!

Makes 1 3/4 cups.

Creating a Username for your Facebook Page

This task is much simpler than it sounds. Once you have the proper URL and know what to look for this shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to create. Keep in mind that this post has been written to help you assuming that you have already created a Facebook page for your business. In addition, as a rule of Facebook, you must have at least 25 Fans in order to claim a username.

If you are eligible to claim a username, simply follow the steps below.

1. Once logged onto your Facebook Profile enter the URL of:

http://www.facebook.com/username

This will bring you to a screen similar to the one below:

Notice that this screen is to set up a username for your individual profile, this is NOT for your business page!

2. Click on the link “Set a Username for your Pages.”

This will bring you to the screen seen below:

3. Select which page you wish to create a username for from the drop down menu next to “Page Name.”

4. Enter the username you wish to appear on your URL and click “Check Availability.”

Example: http://www.facebook.com/DESIRED USERNAME

Note: If you are creating a username for your company page be sure to use your company name. If it is not available or you do not wish to use your company name, you may want to do some research in order to find what is frequently searched surrounding your industry. The keywords (or your business name) set as your username can make you more searchable.

Be selective and precise in what you choose as you will NOT be able to edit or transfer this username once you have set it!

5. Confirm your username!

Setting Up Google Alerts & Your Google Reader

One of the most basic and easy forms of tracking your social marketing is by setting up Google Alerts. In fact, Google Alerts are something that every company should have set up in order to effectively manage your marketing efforts online.

What are Google Alerts?

Google Alerts by definition are “email updates of the latest relevant Google results (Web, news, etc) based on your choice of query or topic.”

Google Alerts are useful for monitoring news about your company, keeping current on a competitor in your industry, staying on top of industry news and much more.

Another helpful asset companies should use is Google Reader.

What is Google Reader?

Google Reader allows you to read all of your desired RSS feeds in one location.

Below is a step-by-step guide to setting up Google Alerts and Google Reader for your company.

Setting Up Google Alerts & Google Reader

1. Signing Up for an Alert

In the field next to Search Terms: you can enter specific keywords you would like Google Alerts to search for and send you a report on. These keywords can consist of things like your company name, industry name, industry keywords etc…however, beware of certain keywords. Some can be too vague and overflow your reports with useless information.

Then you’ll want to select the “Type: Comprehensive” to receive all updates.

Since you will be delivering your alerts to a feed, it will automatically update as it happens. If you prefer an alert to go to your email you may select the frequency.

Your email length can be either “up to 20 results” or “up to 50 results.”

Then select “Deliver to: Feed”. This will deliver to a feed that you can view in Google Reader.
Note: if you do not have an email account with Google it will only allow you to email your Google Alerts, instead sign up for a free Gmail account so that you can use all of the wonderful features such as this.

2. Managing Your Alerts

Once you have created a Google Alert, click on the bottom left hand side “Click to Manage Your Alerts.”

On this screen you can manage your Google Alerts, as well as add or delete alerts.

3. Adding a Feed

From the alert management page, you can view your Feed in Google Reader. You will find this under the “Deliver To” column. By clicking “View in Google Reader” this will bring you to your Google Reader page.

Your feeds from your alerts should automatically be subscribed to since you selected to feed them there.

You can select different feeds from the Subscriptions Tab. It also provides options to only view those subscriptions with updates as well.

In addition to viewing all Google Alerts Feeds here you can also place other feeds to manage and track your desired topics online.

4. Subscribing to Other Feeds For Google Reader

Take for example a Feed on Twitter:

Search your desired topic on Twitter

When you find a searched topic you want to subscribe to scroll down to the button “RSS feed for this query.”

It will bring you to the RSS Feed page. At the top it provides drop down menu after “Subscribe to this feed using:” This is where you will select Google. Then click on the “Subscribe Now” button.

It will bring you to a Google page as shown below. Once you have landed here, you will select “Add to Google Reader.”

This will automatically add in another subscription to my Google Reader. You can now view multiple subscriptions all in your Google Reader. This can be done the same way for other terms searched through Twitter or other pages that provide RSS Feed. Feeds you should consider adding will be those that can help you listen to the conversation regarding your own company as well as the industry surrounding your company.

To scroll up and down quickly through your feeds the “K” key will help you scroll up while the “J” key will help you scroll down.

Another great feed to consider adding to your Google Reader is LinkedIn Answers. This saves you the process of logging onto LinkedIn to respond to industry-related questions. Instead you have the ability to manage and decide which answers to respond to through Google Reader where the rest of your feeds are.

Why Will This Help?

By setting up these alerts and feeds you will be able to better manage your online social media and listen to the conversation. This can provide great opportunities for you to get involved in the conversation as well. Many complain about the amount of time it takes to manage your social media and company information on the internet. Google Reader narrows down the time spent searching for these places and allows you to take a proactive approach in order to engage in the conversation.

Update of My Life

Time is flying by, it’s already March of 2010! How did that even happen?? I’m making

a commitment to write a monthly update for my Tumblr on what is going on in my life.

So first things first…yep I’m a brunette now! Who ever said that blondes have more fun?! I’ve been feeling a change for a while and finally just did it. So far it’s been a hit!

What’s next, well my March Madness bracket tanked…hard!! I started out 3-0 with my pick of Old Dominion over Notre Dame, I thought I was off to a great start!! Then I realized, not all upsets will actually be upsets, and somehow in my lucky bracket the upsets I chose didn’t work out and the upsets I didn’t choose messed me up too! Flippin’ Kansas!! If you don’t know me, I’ll fill you in on my personality..when it comes to sports..I’m competitive…real competitive! My devastating loss in my March Madness pools has been difficult on me. I have now secured my spot as the bottom loser and owe my fellow competitors a nice home cooked meal. Ugh! Any ideas of what I should make? Maybe I’ll make it really bad so they can feel my pain and suffering too. :)

Nuggets are in the playoffs! It will be interesting to see the final standings going into the first round. As of right now we are tied with the Jazz in the no. 3 position behind Dallas & the Lakers (yuck). We’re 6 1/2 games back from 1st but only 1/2 game back from the Mavs in 2nd place. With the recent downfall we seem to be leaving our security of the no. 2 spot in the dust, not good. Hopefully they can make a turn around soon and get their act together. Having K-Mart out has hurt us as well as Ty Lawson. Once we get back to full strength again we should be blockin’ & rollin’ like we were before!

I’ve been working full time at a strategic marketing company Webolutions as a Social Marketing Coordinator for for 9 months now.It’s been a really great company with a wonderful team to be around daily. I’ve really enjoyed the research and learning part of the position. In addition, to heading up the social marketing there. I also began and run a monthly meeting for marketing professionals, and business leaders in the area who want to learn more about social marketing. The group is now up to 430 members!

I was fortunate in 2009 to travel quite a bit. Trips included:

We had our DND poster photo shoot yesterday. It was supposed to be outside, but the snow slowed our stroll a bit. I think it’s going to look awesome though! Our photographer, Garrett Ellwood is so great at what he does. Look for the poster to be coming out soon! It will be a give-a-way at an upcoming Nuggets game!

Whole Wheat Flax Seed Cranberry Cookies

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup ground flaxseeds

1 cup Unsweetend Vanilla Almond Milk

2 cups Whole Wheat Flour

1/2 cup Rolled Oats

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Baking Soda

1/2 tsp Sea Salt

1/2 tsp Cinnamon

1/4 tsp Ground Nutmeg

1/4 cup Canola Oil

1 cup Organic or Raw Sugar

2 tbsp pure Vanilla Extract

4 Egg Whites

2 cups Raw Sliced Almonds

1/2 cup Dried Cranberries

DIRECTIONS:

- Combine flax seeds, flour, oats, baking soda, baking powder, sea salt, cinnamon, & nutmeg.

- In another bowl combine Canola Oil, Egg Whites, Milk, Vanilla and Sugar.

- Combine all ingredients and stir in Almonds & Cranberries.

- Make doungh into balls and place on cookie sheet

- Cook for 15 minute at 375 degrees.

- Makes 36 servings

It seems that the number of businesses adopting social media practices continues to grow. In fact, according to a study done by the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, one in five business owners are integrating social media into their business processes.

Social marketing is a trend that business owners need to pay attention to. For all of those claiming social media is a fad, you are wrong! Businesses are adopting social media to promote, grow and manage their reputation online.

Add a bio and your location. Studies have shown that profiles with a bio and location are more likely to increase followers than profiles that don’t provide either.

How To: Build A Facebook Landing Page

How To: Build A Facebook Landing Page:

Creating a unique, noticeable Facebook Page can be difficult. In a market that is being swarmed with social media, it is essential to stand out in the crowd. By developing a landing page for users to see upon arrival of your Facebook Page, you can generate more interest and excitement around your brand.

Some companies that are generating very unique landing pages include: Pepsi, Victoria’s Secret, and Buffalo Wild Wings. All of these pages bring excitement and uniqueness to their Facebook Pages. Creating your own landing page is very easy to do, simply follow the steps below.

1. Add the Static FBML Application

By searching “Static FBML” (Facebook Markup Language) on the Facebook search bar, you can find the “Static FBML” page.

Click on “View Application,” this will take you to the page.

Click on “Add to My Page” under the logo on the left hand side. It will then give you the option of which page you would like to add it to. (If you have multiple pages choose the specific page you want to add it to.)

2. Developing Your Page’s Tab

Once you have added it, go to your page and click on, “edit page” under the logo picture.

Scroll down until you find the Static FBML Application.

Click on the Application Settings and make sure that “Tab” is added and Box is removed. This allows the users to land on your created tab.

Once you have completed this process, it is time to add and edit your content. You can begin to add content by clicking the “edit” button next to “application settings.”

3. Create your own content

When you are editing FBML you will see two fields to place text into.

First is the “Box Title” this is where you will place the title of the tab, (i.e. company name, or weekly special offers) this will vary depending on your use for the landing page.

Second is the FBML, this is where you place the HTML code.

Not familiar with HTML code? We recommend getting in touch with a web designer or developer.

4. Create Your Landing Page

In order to create the FBML as a landing page for all viewers to see, you must go back to your basic settings page.

Under “Wall Settings” expand the drop down menu for, “Default Landing Tab for Everyone Else.” Then click on your box title.

Congratulations! Now, everyone viewing your page will land on your Static FBML page.
